I want to say the reason that I haven’t blogged this week is due to the fact that I am off on a summer vacation somewhere exotic but that couldn’t be farther from the truth.
I am actually trying to wrap my head around my new assignment/calling in the LDS church as Regional Public Affairs director for New England covering Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine and a part of upstate New York, basically our same boundaries as the mission here.
I was called last week under Elder Matt Eyring, our area authority to work directly with/under him.
My jobs includes a lot of leadership and training stake presidents, bishops and stake public affairs committees in this region. Public affairs is about building relationships….yahoo….I love that.
It is all making a little more sense to me a week later and I now see how so many things in my past, now are officially contributing to my future, which will help me be successful in this job.
I am a little stressed out I won’t lie.
I have insecurities with skills I will have to use like my English and grammar. I can’t spell, I have homonym and comma issues, but the good thing is…I am going to have a host of talented people working with me who can clean up my writing for me. On the other side of the brain, I can run social media, film and photography with ease..so it will all work out.
Most of the job is relationship building in the interfaith community and with key opinion leaders in the three states.
At this level, everyone who is my counterpart is outstanding and amazing. Everyone I meet, is dynamic and breeds enthusiasm. I can’t wait to dig into this and planning is underway.
It is perfect for my life right now as a stay at home mom. Much of the job can be done right here from my computer on my comfy couch.
We have discussed this before, but in the LDS church you are not paid and everyone is lay workers. My “callings”, which means assignments have given me so many skills that I would never turn one down when asked. You receive so much more than you give when you are serving in the church.
This even confirms to me how crucial my life choices have and need to continue to be.
Don’t be surprised if you don’t see a few highlights of what we are going to be doing on this blog.
I love the benefits too…just found out Sunday we have a big North America Northeast Public Affairs meeting in NYC…yep they are picking up the hotel..two days of training and spiritual growth. Everybody’s coming to town for that. Can’t wait!
